It’s flooring—and then some. Made for More.
1994 SET INTERFACE ON A new COURSE
A world-changing impact. Founder Ray Anderson did just that when he set us on a path to create a regenerative future. Now, more than 30 years later, we know that our flooring can deliver great design, performance, and sustainability – with no compromises!
At Interface, we’re 'all in' on solving the climate crisis. We know carbon is
the key to real progress, and we’re tackling it head on.
Our goal? Store more carbon than ever before and be carbon negative by 2040.
Interface sets the standard for sustainability. And we continue to raise the bar.
1973
Talk about a revolution. Founder Ray Anderson started one in 1973 when he brought European carpet tiles to America. His ideas soon spread worldwide—making Interface #1 in modular flooring globally.
1994
A customer asked, "What's your company doing for the environment?" Ray didn’t have an answer. So he read Paul Hawken’s book, The Ecology of Commerce. This “spear in the chest” moment changed Ray’s perspective on business and sustainability.
1994-1999
Authors. Activists. Scientists. Entrepreneurs. All were part of Interface’s Eco Dream Team. They helped map our sustainability journey – a vision for no negative impacts on the environment. We also launched ReEntry™ to reuse, recycle, and recover our carpet tiles.
2000-2009
A decade of big innovations. Like Entropy® carpet tile. And our TacTiles™ installation system. Plus, we named our goal to eliminate our impact on the environment by 2020 – Mission Zero.
2010-2024
We didn’t just meet our Mission Zero goal. We beat it ahead of schedule. Then, we set out to create a climate fit for life – through Climate Take Back™.
TODAY
Solving the climate crisis requires bold, relentless action – from all of us. We know what it takes, so we’re doing our part—to become carbon negative by 2040. Our plan? Avoid carbon. Reduce carbon. Store carbon. Interface is all in. Are you?
“A plunderer of the Earth.” That’s what Ray Anderson called himself. Then he set Interface on a quest to become a regenerative company. Interface’s story inspired writer and director Nathan Havey to create the film, Beyond Zero. It shows how Interface overcame deep skepticism, abandoned the status quo, and set a new standard for sustainability.
Businesses do well by doing good. Ray Anderson strongly believed this idea. And The Ray C. Anderson Foundation continues his legacy.
